KARACHI: The Sindh Apex Committee on Friday was told that the provincial government on the directives of the Interior Ministry had placed 69 organisations in Schedule 4.
It was shared that the provincial government had so far repatriated 7,095 Afghan refugees, registered 3,135 cases against illegal refugees, arrested 5,073 Afghans and deported 888.
The meeting of the apex committee, presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, decided to shift 270 prisoners, including 19 most notorious from Karachi Central Jail to other jails of the province by declaring them high security prisons.
Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Shaid Baig Mirza, chief secretary, Rangers Director General Major General Mohammad Saeed attended the meeting.
The mushroom growth of seminaries in the province was also discussed at the meeting. It was said that around 1,000 seminaries were located on the government’s land illegally. The meeting decided to scrutinise the documents / NOCs of 1,000 seminaries and said that no seminary would be allowed to be constructed on any main road.
The meeting expressed its apprehensions over establishment of some 60 seminaries in Tharparkar, given the fact that the majority of the people in the area are Hindus. It was decided that the Home Department would investigate the mushroom growth the seminaries in the area.
Referring to the revival of proscribed organisations under new names, the meeting decided that intelligence agencies, police and Rangers would investigate such cases and take necessary action.
The participants of the meeting were informed that the provincial government had sent 90 cases to military courts for trial, which had awarded capital punishment in 21 cases but not a single execution had taken place because of appeals against them. The meeting, however, decided to send 10 more cases, including Amjad Sabri case, to military courts.
The meeting also decided to seek powers from the central government / Federal Investigation Agency to investigate the growing cyber crime cases in the province.
The recent surge in incidents of target killing of policemen also got the attention of the meeting. It was told that the Ranger DG and provincial top cop were jointly working to bust the gangs involved in killing of policemen.
Operation against outlaws in’ katcha’ area was also discussed for which the chief minister had already accorded approval to. The meeting decided to get aerial support, spare force comprising police, Rangers and may be armed forces personnel.
Security of shrines, surge in street crimes, rising back heists and other issues related to the law and order were also discussed at the meeting.
