MULTAN: Senior politician and former Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Javed Hashmi on Sunday said that the estranged PML-N leader and former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had planted the roots of separation between him and the party.
While addressing the media, Hashmi claimed that Nisar never approved of him as party president and used to turn the party meetings into mockery. Hashmi added that he had never paid heed to what Nisar said because his candidacy was not at the provincial level but for the National Assembly. He said that it didn’t bother him who the chief minister was or is.
He commented on Nisar’s loyalty, stating that the latter had deserted Nawaz and went off the scene when he was held at gunpoint in October 1999.
Hashmi stated that he had had a history with Nisar, which is why he was concerned over how Nisar’s current narrative was damaging the party rather than serving it. He added that if Nisar continued on this path and differences were prolonged, it would be hard to tackle. Hashmi said that he hoped Shahbaz Sharif would tend to this matter and bring it to resolve by a friendly measure.
However, he said that it was obvious that Nisar had good relations with the establishment.
Hashmi added that he has not joined any political party even though he is in the good books of the Sharif family. He revealed that Nawaz had affirmed him that there will be no candidacy against his, irrespective to where he contested the election from. He acknowledged that Nawaz had in his way awarded the party ticket to him where Nisar had no ticket or platform to contest an election from.
Former PML-N leader added that he would consider and demarcate his constituencies to contest in the upcoming elections after reviewing the current political environment. He assured that he will not contest against Nisar even if the PML-N asked.
Hashmi stated that Maryam Nawaz was playing the role of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, keeping the party glued together and motivated in times of distress and hardship.
Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, former leader of PML-N and a well-known rebellious politician often termed as ‘Baaghi’, had parted ways with PML-N in 2011. Though rumours have surfaced of his rejoining the party, nothing has been made official to prove the rumors as yet.
