LAHORE: On Friday, the Sup
reme Court (SC) gave a detailed verdict to the hearing held on Thursday regarding the Faizabad p
rotest. The SC stated that the p
rotestors have political motives.
Citing the report prepared by Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) regarding Faizabad sit-in, the detailed verdict stated that the Tehreek-e-Labbaik was determined to exploit the situation and gain political mileage to gain support for the next general election.
“Normal life of the ordinary citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad especially those visiting twin cities on daily basis for routine purposes stands paralysed,” the
ISI report concluded according to the SC’s detailed verdict.
The court’s verdict also stated that the previous order had no impact on the p
rotesters as they had not cleared the area yet.
“In our previous order, we had referred to different provisions of the Constitution that were being violated. We also referred to some verses of the Holy Quran and the sayings of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Unfortunately, they disregarded the same,” the court said.
The court rejected the government’s stance of not using force on p
roteste
rs in order to avoid any loss of life.
“Baton-wielding or eve
n unarmed law enforcement personnel, if they are sufficient in numbers, can undertake such an exercise as is often undertaken in many civilised countries of the world and without any loss of life,” the order stated.
The court also ordered the government to submit its implementation report at the next hearing.
The hearing was then adjourned till November 30.
